About How effective were the Hemp bales at the first Battle of Lexington

How effective were the Hemp bales at the first Battle of Lexington?
At the first battle of Lexington, Missouri in 1861 during the civil war the Confederate supporting Missouri State Guard advanced up the hill towards Federal troops behind soaked Hemp bales, using them as protection from enemy fire. It worked, and the Federal encampemnt was captured with little loss of life. This was still early in the war. Was this technique used elsewhere by either side during the rest of the conflict, and was it as sucessful as at Lexington?

Answer 1 :
Wtf is this true?
Answer 2 :
I don't believe using hemp bales was a routine strategy. I think armies used anything that was available. However, if the hemp bales would have been torched that would have made the battle a little more interesting.
Answer 3 :
Apparently the confederates dipped the bales in the Missouri River and the absorbed water kept cannon balls from getting through. As far as I know this was the only place to use the technique and maybe because the armies were small enough that they could get away with it. The only reason I'd even heard about this is because I'm from Missouri

Sephora Store #204 10 Columbus Circle, New York, NY 10023 (212) 823-9383‎ (212) 823-9388‎ This is the closest location
Answer 2 :
My friend, the nearest Bath & Body Works store is the flagship store located at 441 Lexington Avenue at East 41st Street. Take the downtown #4, 5 or 6 subway lines from 59th Street to Grand Central-42nd Street. The nearest Sephora store is located inside the Time Warner Center at 10 Columbus Circle. Take the downtown "N", "R", "Q" or "W" subway lines from Lexington Avenue-59th Street to 57th Street. From the 57th Street subway station, walk north two blocks along 7th Avenue 59th Street, turn right and walk a block west to the Time Warner Center. I hope this information is very helpful. Good luck and happy shopping Native New Yorker
Answer 3 :
The Time Warner Center is like a mini-mall. It has a Sephora, Whole Foods, Borders bookstore and the East Coast flagship of Williams-Sonoma. It is really easy to get to via the subway and right across from the park. There is also a very cool, fairly new Sephora in Times Square, also convenient to the subway

Answer 1 :
Any of the downtown hotels would work. The biggest being the Hyatt and the Raddisson. Or the Hilton at Lexington Green might work, just walk over to the shops/restaurant areas. Bar Louie has LOTS of TVs . Otherwise, taxis aren't too overpriced (esp. if ride sharing)

About How do I get from JFK to Lexington/53rd

How do I get from JFK to Lexington/53rd?
I honestly have no idea how these subways work in New York, I know there is a subway station I guess at Lexington Avenue and 53rd street which is very close to my hotel. How much will it be and how long will it take? thanks!

Answer 1 :
Sasha, here how to get from JFK to Lexington Avenue/53rd Street. Step 1: take the Airtrain from the terminal to Jamaica Station. Please listen for the announcement "Station D: Jamaica Station." Step 2: at Jamaica Station, purchase a $7.25 MetroCard from the MetroCard Vending Machine, and exit the Airtrain system into Jamaica Station. A $5 fare will be deducted from your MetroCard, when exiting the Airtrain system at Jamaica Station. The remaining $2.25 will use for the subway. Step 3: Once thought turnstile (faregate), follow the directional signs to the New York City subway. Upon entering the subway, take the Manhattan-bound (westbound) "E" express train (Blue Line on the subway map) from Sutphin Blvd-JFK/Jamaica Station to Lexington Avenue/53rd Street. I hope this information is very helpful. If you have any questions or need travel directions while in town, just drop me a line by clicking on the avatar and e-mail icon in the profile. I'll be glad to help. Good luck Native New Yorker and daily commuter
Answer 2 :
Do you really want to drag luggage on a subway? I'd take a taxi. Some things are worth the price.
Answer 3 :
Get in a taxi and tell him to take you to Lexington and 53rd. How long? Well, if you have a good taxi driver: 45 minutes to an hour If you have a SAFE taxi driver: an hour to an hour and a half (incidentally, We don't have a lot of SAFE taxi drivers here)

About How does your states police academy work

How does your states police academy work?
In Kentucky everyone goes through the same 18 week police academy. That is except for Lexington, Louisville and the state police. I was wondering if it was like this in other states. I heard from someone that there are some departments in some states don't require their officers to go to an academy.

Answer 1 :
Here in Texas if you want to be a State Trooper you go to their academy in Austin, but there are many small city Police Departments and Sheriff's Offices that train their own new officers.
Answer 2 :
Here in CA the training standards are uniform, but there are many academies with different teaching styles. Most take 6 to 9 months depending on if they are full or part time
